Critical Incident Response
Crisis Center staff are certified to provide Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), a short-term helping process that focuses on how to get through a crisis event, such as a death by suicide, workplace accident, natural disaster in the community, or other situation. The purpose of CISM is to enable people to return to their daily routine more quickly and with less likelihood of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder.
The CISM intervention components are designed to help people deal with trauma by allowing them to talk about the incident without judgment or criticism. Group sessions and one-on-one time can be incorporated. The emphasis is always on keeping people safe and returning them quickly to more normal levels of functioning.
The program is adaptable to whatever kind of event you may have experienced, whether it was yesterday or weeks ago. CISM can be used for individuals, families, small groups, neighborhood, organizations, businesses and even entire communities.
