Thanksgiving in July Food Drive

Meeting a Basic Need

The economy has affected everyone but none more than low-income families, who were already struggling before lay-offs and work hour reductions hit our area. The Crisis Center's Food Bank program is distributing nearly 3,000 food bags each month, helping approximately 4,500 local residents of all ages, family sizes and life situations. The program has seen a 30% increase in need for food assistance over the past two years.

You Can Make a Difference

Throughout the week of July 26 - 31, 2010 place your non-perishable food donations in Thanksgiving in July dropoff barrels and help the Crisis Center feed the hungry in Johnson County! The barrels will be located at:

  • Coralville HyVee, Lantern Park Plaza off Highway 6
  • First Avenue HyVee, 812 1st Avenue in Iowa City
  • North Dodge HyVee, 1201 N. Dodge Street in Iowa City
  • Waterfront HyVee, 1720 Waterfront Drive in Iowa City
  • New Pioneer Co-op, 1101 2nd Street in Coralville
  • New Pioneer Co-op, 22 S Van Buren Street in Iowa City
  • Fareway Store, 2530 Westwinds Drive, off Mormon Trek in Iowa City
  • Fareway Store, 2765 Commerce Drive, off Scott Blvd in Iowa City

Financial Donations

The Crisis Center can purchase some food items much cheaper than store prices, so cash contributions are very welcome! Donate now using our secure online system or ask at one of the HyVee checkout lines to add a $1, $5 or $10 donation to your purchase.

Donations will also be accepted at the Crisis Center's food drive effort at the four HyVee locations on Friday, July 30 from 3:00 - 9:00 pm and on Saturday, July 31 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Look for our Thanksgiving in July volunteers at information tables in the stores.
