Crisis Center Food Drive for Thanksgiving in July

The Crisis Center of Johnson County is hosting a two-day food drive at area HyVee stores as part of Thanksgiving in July. The food drives will take place Friday, July 30 from 3:00 - 9:00 pm and Saturday, July 31 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at the First Avenue, North Dodge and Waterfront Hyvee locations in Iowa City and the Coralville Hyvee store. All proceeds will benefit our Food Bank program.
Volunteers are needed to help with several aspects of this fun event.
Table Hosts
Information tables about the food drive and Thanksgiving in July will be located inside the First Avenue, Waterfront and Coralville HyVee stores and outside under a tent at the North Dodge store. Volunteers are needed to help staff these tables and distribute information, answer questions and accept donations.
At least two people are needed for 2-hour shifts on Friday and Saturday at all four locations. No need to be a Crisis Center expert - a quick training will be done when your shift begins and fact sheets will be provided to help you answer any questions.
Runners
Volunteers are needed to transport food donations from the tabling locations inside the stores out to Hawkeye Food semi-trailers in each parking lot. There will be two people scheduled as runners in 2-hours shifts on Friday and Saturday at all four locations. Temperatures may be warm and some heavy lifting may be required.
Donation Sorters
Our Thanksgiving in July food drive has brought in thousands of pounds of donations in past years. Volunteers are needed August 2 - 4 to help sort and shelve the proceeds. Shifts can be any length of time between 10:00 am - 7:00 pm. This is an ideal opportunity for a group interested in volunteering together.
Donations will be sorted at the Crisis Center, 1121 Gilbert Ct in Iowa City.
