Communications Intern Needed
Monday, January 16
The Crisis Center is currently seeking a Communications Intern. This internship opportunity is intended to provide entry-level professional experience in nonprofit public relations, marketing and fundraising practices within our Communications & Development Office.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Intern will implement The Crisis Center’s social media strategy by managing Facebook, Twitter, e-correspondence and blog components; coordinate website updates and produce new content; conduct media relations, including cultivating relationships with media outlets, preparing news releases, and scheduling and tracking media appearances; and assist with fundraising and special events activities as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
This position involves a significant amount of public relations writing. Accordingly, we are seeking candidates with a high school diploma plus a minimum of two years of college coursework in journalism, communications, marketing, English or a related field of study. Six months of practical experience writing on deadline is also desired.
Other Important Considerations
Because we are not able to offer compensation for this internship, our goal is to help build the intern's skills through meaningful experiences as well as add elements to their professional portfolio. The position offers hands-on opportunities with a high level of responsibility, and will be individualized to the interests of the candidate.
The intern would work up to 10 hours a week on a flexible schedule, to accommodate school and other commitments. Ideally the internship would take place over two academic semesters (summer/fall, fall/spring or spring/summer) to provide a diverse and comprehensive experience.
