2013 marks the 26th year The Crisis Center has hosted Project Holiday, our annual food distribution to brighten the holidays for families in need in Johnson County. 4,309 individuals received food this year - a new record! We still need to raise about $5,000 to cover costs. You can help by donating now!

More than 1,400 families are expected to register to receive special entrees, fresh produce, baking supplies, and more through our Food Bank program. Financial support to purchase these items and volunteer hours to help distribute them are critical. Help The Crisis Center create a memorable holiday season for those less fortunate and continue the tradition of community spirit.

A History of Brightening the Holidays

Project Holiday began as a partnership in 1988 between the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) and The Crisis Center where DVIP distributed toys and The Crisis Center organized food baskets. Throughout the years, other partners have included the Salvation Army, Visiting Nurse Association, and Elder Services.

A single distribution site was shared until client feedback led The Crisis Center to begin distributing Project Holiday food at the Food Bank. Another change has been offering clients choice and diversity, rather than a pre-packed box of items. Families now have several main entrees options, and additional baking items and ethnic ingredients are offered.

A Big Thanks to our Presenting Sponsor: McDonald's!

Rising Costs Mean Every Donation Has an Impact

As we have all noticed at the grocery store, food prices are climbing. The Crisis Center is also facing these increased costs in ordering items for Project Holiday. The good news is just $20 can help a family in need celebrate the holidays with their favorite recipes and traditions. Donate now online and help one, two or many families with your contribution!

Or look for a tree or bulletin board display filled with red and white Project Holiday "tags" at your office, church or favorite retailer. We are grateful for the support of organizations throughout Johnson County who are displaying Project Holiday tags (scroll to the bottom of this page for a list of locations). Pick up a tag with information about contributing and return it with a donation to The Crisis Center today.

Thank you TMone, our other presenting sponsor!

A Project Holiday Donation Makes a Great Gift

A donation to The Crisis Center in lieu of a gift is a lovely gesture for a person at any age. We have created a downloadable Project Holiday donation card that you can print on 8.5" by 11" paper, then fold and mail or deliver so the recipient knows how much your thoughtfulness will help our efforts.

Gifts of Time are Also Needed - Volunteer!

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the opportunity to give. In addition to financial contributions, gifts of time are also needed to make Project Holiday a success.

The Project Holiday food distribution is an enormous undertaking. Greet clients, distribute and bag food items, help families to their cars . . . even direct traffic in our parking lot!

Be part of Project Holiday 2013. Grab your family, co-workers, and friends to volunteer with you or sign-up for a shift and meet new people. Distribution dates and times are listed below, along with links to our simple, online volunteer sign-up sites.
